Finding your Tribe

Living with a disability or chronic illness can sometimes feel isolating. When energy is limited or access feels complicated, it’s easy to drift away from social spaces that once felt natural. But connection matters — and finding the right kind of community can make a real difference.

Across England and Wales, there are many free, accessible clubs and organisations designed with inclusion in mind. From gentle exercise and outdoor groups, to creative art spaces and accessible reading clubs, these communities offer opportunities to connect at your own pace, in ways that respect your needs.

Joining a group isn’t about pushing yourself or “keeping up.” It’s about being welcomed as you are, meeting others who understand, and rediscovering moments of joy, creativity, and shared experience. Even online or occasional participation can help rebuild a sense of belonging.

If you or someone you care about has been feeling disconnected, these resources may be a gentle starting point. Feel free to explore, bookmark, or share them — you never know who might need a reminder that they don’t have to do this alone.

Connection looks different for everyone, and that’s okay.
